Bringing the HEAT this year. I get caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, feinty. Intense. Bites on the sip. Shoe polish. Too much bite. Metallic? Tastes purple? Have a feeling letting this breathe for a good bit would do it favors - low rating only because the bite distracts. Scotch. Japanese? Cydne reminds me that nobody cares where I end up in the standings so I'm going for it!

Ok I know I’ve been off this year but this is clearly a delicious scotch — and following the trend this year, it’s spicy one. (Hope we tone it down moving forward because this is not my favorite trend…) Wonderful flavors here, fruit, wood, peat. Dried fruit on the nose. Beautifully complex. Really lingers well. The more I sip this, the more I'm falling for it. Probably my favorite so far! If only it didn’t have that bite…

It smelled like a Scotch, with its essence refined, Yet doubts lingered softly in the back of my mind. A sweetness arose, like a candied delight, But its name evaded me, try as I might. Its flavor was rich, its warmth held me close, A comforting riddle in this amber dose. Though it whispered of Scotland with a Highlander’s croon, I sensed I would find out my guess was wrong again soon. So I'll savor this puzzle, let its mysteries unfold, For each sip of whiskey is a story about to be told.

Don’t love it. Similar to last night it seems. Getting malty scotch notes on the nose. Very hot and seems unrefined and not aged long. Better with some water for sure.

Hands down, this is one of the most complex flavors I’ve ever experienced. Nose was pure, unadulterated alcohol. I steeled myself for a burn, and still wasn’t prepared for all that heat. My stomach lurched as I reached for the fire extinguisher and I thought that’s one hell of a rye. My next thought was “is this salvageable or should I just dump it…” and while I was contemplating, the flavors finally developed and was left with the clear impression of scotch on my palate. I would have given this a full 2 points higher if it tasted like the aftertaste, but that alcohol burned away the flavor. I dub thee “cinnamon toast scotch”. Mostly pleasant when converted to a classic scotch and water.

Were I to ever become a father and were my spawn to ever gain a partner and were that partner to ever seek my approval, I would give them this one neat and pretend it’s my regular. Were I to ever meet a dragon I would offer this one as a breath mint. Were I to ever find myself in the desert, I would be prepared by having drunk this whiskey. Were I to, you f*cking get it it’s spicy and rough. WATER UPDATE: oh wow that’s much better forget I said anything. Still spicy as hell but like in a good way now. Were I to meet the maker of this one I’d shake their hand and say ‘good job I like it’ in between bouts of breathing fire.
